Mentor Protégé
Graduate
Over 7 years ago, AGC and the City of San Diego
entered into an agreement that brought a Mentor-Protégé Program to
San Diego to assist small, emerging and minority-owned contractors
into the construction industry. The 4th graduate of this
program is In Line Fence and Rail
Company, and their mentor was
T.B. Penick & Sons.
AGC San Diego Chapter
is one of the largest and strongest AGC Chapters in
the United States. The reason for this is easy to identify……this
Chapter has a fully engaged and enthusiastic membership that
understands that a strong AGC will benefit the construction
industry.
AGC would like to thank
Lockton Insurance for their
sponsorship to the Installation Dinner. Without their
sponsorship, the Installation would not have been the successful
event that it was. Thank you Lockton!
AGC San Diego Board
Member, Ted Rossin, Rossin Steel,
Shares Golf
Knowledge with Tiger Woods!

Past AGC San Diego President, Ted Rossin, Rossin Steel,
worked with Tiger Woods during the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines. Evidently, Ted noticed a flaw in Tiger’s putting
stroke while Tiger was practicing on Torrey’s putting green just before the Buick started on Thursday, January 24th.
Tiger won the Buick by 8 strokes, and his putting was
outstanding! Congratulations Ted (and Tiger).
Editors Note: If anyone actually believes this story, we would like

Election Tomorrow –
Please Vote, and use AGC “Voter Guide”
The Presidential Election is tomorrow, but there is
more to the ballot than voting for a Presidential candidate! There
are also state and local propositions to consider...print the
attached AGC “Voter Guide” and take it with you to the polling
booth.

candidate lists, the text and analysis of all the ballot measures,

Reminder: Coastal
Commission in Del Mar to Consider Proposed Toll Road – Call to
Action
The California Coastal
Commission is the next stop in the approval process for the proposed
toll road between San Diego and Orange Counties, and we need your
help!
On Wednesday, the Coastal
Commission will be meeting at the Del Mar Fairgrounds to consider
this proposal, which will extend SR 241 at Oso Parkway in southern
Orange County to I-5 at Basilone Road on the extreme northern end of
Camp Pendleton. It will relieve congestion, reduce local emergency
response time, and dramatically increase safety to the public in the
event of a natural disaster or incident at the San Onofre Nuclear
Generating Station.
Call to Action:
The Commissioners of the Coastal Commission (including our own San
Diego City Council Member Ben Hueso) need to hear from the
construction industry that this complex project needs to be built.
Simply click on
www.relievetraffic.org for more information and
instructions to send a letter or e-mail to the Commissioners.
You
can also help by attending the Coastal Commission meeting, which has
been moved to the Del Mar Fairgrounds to accommodate the expected
larger crowd. The meeting will begin at 9 AM, but is likely to last
most of the day, due to the number of speakers in support or
opposition. If you are interested in attending, or would like to
speak, please contact Brad Barnum at
bbarnum@agcsd.org.

Help Our Wounded
Troops – One Last Appeal
By Jim Ryan,
Executive Vice President
The generosity of AGC San Diego members never
ceases to amaze me. After two weeks of solicitation to the
membership for the
Rescue Task Force,
the organization that provides backpacks of personal belongings to
our wounded troops that are evaced to military hospitals in the
states, the AGC membership has responded with donations of
57
backpacks
at $600 each. (Information on this program
can be found by going to
www.agcsd.org,
and “clicking” on Monday Morning Quarterback,
detailing this charity
that
are included in the archives on 1/28/08, and
1/21/08.
Our final appeal is
TODAY.
AGC
2008 President, John H. Daley,
Jr.
and Senior Vice President
Kevin
Elliott, will challenge the 13
western AGC Chapters this Wednesday in Phoenix to
match our membership’s efforts. The following letter says it all…it
was sent to a Rotary Club that donated a backpack through the Rescue
Task Force.
Dear Rotary Club President, Board, and Members,
My husband is a wounded warrior currently
receiving treatment for injuries he received due to an IED blast in
Iraq on November 21, 2007. He received a backpack full of wonderful
items, as well as a letter from your organization.
I just wanted to take the time to let you know how
much it means to him to receive support, such as this, from all over
the US. He arrived at Walter Reed, as he says, in his birthday
suit. He literally had a hospital gown on, and a bag with his ACU
pants that had been cut from him, his boots, and one sock.
Everything else was gone, including his dog tags and his ID.
Receiving a bag such as the one you sent, helped him feel as if he
actually had something he could call his own. It also allowed him
to have some items to clean up with and something to wear.
For many soldiers, passing the time is a big
issue. Being stuck in the hospital for sometimes months, can get
very monotonous. The game boy and games were definitely a big hit,
as well as the phone.
Currently, my husband is being treated as an
outpatient and his prognosis looks good. He was very lucky. He has
an amazing story that goes along with all of it, and isn't afraid to
share it. We definitely count our blessings daily.
Again, thanks for all you are doing to help our
wounded warriors through their recovery. It is a long road, and
acts of generosity such as yours, make it much more bearable. My
husband as well as the rest of my family extend a big thanks to you
all.
With Gratitude,
Gina Hill and Family
