Giving Back to the Community


BUILD & SERVE CHARITABLE ALLIANCE

The Build & Serve Charitable Alliance provides a venue for AGC members to “give back” to the community. This committee selects charitable projects and programs throughout San Diego County that will give AGC and its members an opportunity to "build" or "serve" those in need.

AGC Members Donate Time & Resources

AGC has joined efforts with Make-A-Wish® San Diego to help grant construction related wishes to children with life-threatening  medical conditions.

MCRD Bootcamp Challenge

Team AGC Motto "We Build What They Protect"

$67,939 Raised to Date!

AGC members participate in MCRD's Bootcamp Challenge, 3-mile obstacle run, which supports the efforts of the Marine Corps Community Services, and other military organizations.



Building Benches for Monarch School

Students at Monarch School build benches during their summer session.

Hensel Phelps instructed an 8th grade class how to build park benches for their school.  Monarch's mission is to help students develop hope for the future with the necessary skills and experience for personal success. At the end of the session, five benches were constructed, and the students beamed with pride and a sense of accomplishment.

AGC Annual Construction Industry-wide Blood Drive

2,805 Pints of Blood Collected to date!

Annually, AGC San Diego partners with the San Diego Blood Bank for the construction industry's largest blood drive. Several AGC member firms host a blood mobile on their site for AGC’s Annual Blood Drive. AGC typically schedules the blood drive around Labor Day or July 4th  when the blood supplies are dwindling during these holidays.

AGC Member's Build New Parking Lot for St. Madeleine Sophie's Center

A Way of Life, A World of Difference

AGC members donated time and resources to St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, serving adults with developmental disabilities, which now has a new paved entrance road and parking lot that has made the Center's organic gardening program even more successful.

AGC Annual Toy Drive

Hundreds of toys donated annually

An AGC holiday tradition over 35 years, members bring an unwrapped toy to the Holiday Dinner Dance. The toys are distributed to Rady Children’s Hospital and the Polinsky Children’s Center.

Handball Court Demolition

Creating a Safer Community Site!

The handball courts at the Spring Valley-East Communities Center had become a magnet for graffiti and a transient drinking hangout.

Boy Scout Lunch-O-Ree

Annually raising funds to support the Boy Scouts

$1,147,830 raised to date with the support of the construction industry.

Annually, the Build & Serve Committee helps in the effort of raising funds to support the Boy Scouts of America, San Diego-Imperial Council.

Mountain Shadows - New Patio

AGC San Diego Members, an Engineering Firm, and A Building Trades Union Join Forces To Help the Disabled!!

The patio was cracking and weakened by California's famous termites. It was not a very pleasant place for the residents to enjoy the outdoors....but because of State funding cutbacks, Mountain Shadows was not in a position to rebuild the patio.

AGC Operation Keep San Diego Warm

Hundreds of pieces donated annually

During the winter months, AGC collects blankets, throws, comforters, and coats to be donated to St. Vincent De Paul Village; Southern California’s largest residential homeless services provider.

 

 

 

 

Adopt-a-School - Monarch School

Back to School Backpacks Donated to Monarch School!

In 2014, AGC adopted Monarch School, which serves 300 students impacted by homelessness. Each student received a backpack filled with school supplies on their first day of school, thanks to the generosity of AGC members.



 

Adopt-a-School - Sweetwater Springs Community Elementary School

Over $3,500 worth of School Supplies Donated!

In 2012, over $3500 worth of school supplies were presented to the teachers of Sweetwater Springs Community Elementary in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District.
